Agent Relay MCP Server

Agent Relay is where your AI agents ask permission. Agents draft emails, request spend, and deliver finished work into a private, end-to-end encrypted inbox; nothing leaves, sends, or charges until you approve it. Anything that can make HTTP requests can use it - Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, cron jobs, webhooks, or your own backend - and it is open source under MIT, so you can run it yourself.

People who work with agent inbox, end to end encryption and passkeys and want it reachable from Claude, Cursor, VS Code, or another MCP client. The project is written in TypeScript.

01 · Install Agent Relay

before you install - you'll need

ARELAY_TOKEN

Environment variables documented in the project's README - it lists which are required and which have defaults.

Claude Code

claude mcp add mmmikael-arelay -- npx -y @arelay/cli

Claude Desktop / Cursor / VS Code - add to config

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "mmmikael-arelay": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "@arelay/cli"
      ]
    }
  }
}

Same JSON for Cursor. For VS Code, rename the top-level key from `mcpServers` to `servers`.

Using another client? Same JSON, different key

06 · Agent Relay FAQ

What is Agent Relay?

Agent Relay is where your AI agents ask permission. Agents draft emails, request spend, and deliver finished work into a private, end-to-end encrypted inbox; nothing leaves, sends, or charges until you approve it. Anything that can make HTTP requests can use it - Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, cron jobs, webhooks, or your own backend - and it is open source under MIT, so you can run it yourself.

Is Agent Relay still maintained?

Yes - as of 2026-09-18, its last commit was 2026-09-02. We re-verify nightly.

How do I install Agent Relay?

Run `npx -y @arelay/cli`. The README documents one environment variable (ARELAY_TOKEN) to set first. You can also paste the ready-made client config above.

Does Agent Relay run locally?

Yes - it's a stdio server: it runs on your machine (via npx) with your user's permissions. Your data stays local unless the server itself calls external APIs.
